With summer in full swing, almost everyone is firing up a barbeque left, right and centre. But which kind is better? Gas? Or charcoal?
Compared to charcoal, gas barbeques tend to be easier to use and quick to ignite. You can also control the temperature of them and have constant, direct heat – perfect for cooking your bbq feast quickly.
The downside? Gas bottles are heavy and expensive. The last thing you want if you’re taking your barbeque anywhere is to also have to cart around a heavy bottle of gas. You’re also less likely to get the same smoky flavour as you would with charcoal.
What about charcoal?
Charcoal barbeques are a lot easier transport. Compared to gas, charcoal briquettes are a lot lighter to carry and are sometimes smaller – an ideal option for packing with minimal space. Briquettes and charcoal barbeques are also a lot cheaper, so if you want to barbeque on a budget, charcoal is a great choice. And if you don’t want to keep carrying a bbq back home, you can get disposable ones!
Even though they are cheaper, lighter and you can get disposable ones, charcoal barbeques can be restrictive with sizes. Most are ideal for small groups or for when you aren’t cooking lots of food, but if you are catering for more, you are best off investing in a gas barbeque instead.
All in all, if you want something that is quick at cooking and can cater for a big group, go for a gas barbeque. If you’re wanting something cheap and cheerful for you and a few people to enjoy, a charcoal barbeque is perfect for you.
